Daddy goes to Dallas, we make cookies

Jeff flew up to Dallas to go to the Cowboys game, so I thought it only appropriate that we have our own treat…cookies!

We were too busy eating them to capture an after shot…they were delicious!

Soccer between friends

Ella and Lauren’s teams played each other.  Ella was a good sport and didn’t seem to mind that Lauren’s team smoked usSmile

The circus!

My parents took the kids and I to the circus not too long ago.  I was so fascinated watching the acts, that I didn’t catch many pictures.

They were tired and not in the mood for a picture, but they really did have a great time!

The start of soccer and baseball

Ella is still taking gymnastics, but also decided she wanted to try soccer this season.  We were so lucky to have one of her sweet friend’s dad’s coaching a team, so she was able to get on the same team her longtime friends Addie Brown and Ella Perkins.  It also turned out that one of Jeff’s oldest friends also had a daughter on the team.
Ella had never played before so we weren’t sure what to expect, but she blew us away at the first game.  She ran like the wind and had a fantastic time!

Austin had his first baseball game of the season at the same time.  His games go a bit longer, so we rushed over to his field to catch the rest.

Austin has since also joined a select team, so 5 days of the week are now consumed by sports for our family.  Jeff made the comment that this is exactly how he hoped our lives would be…consumed with sports.  I said, “yeah…I didn’t think that part through.”  None the less, the kids are happy and we are taking it day by day.  School and family first, with sports close behind. I think we have some very busy years ahead of usSmile

Ella loses her 1st tooth!

We are a little slow to have teeth come in and to fall out in the Madrid family, so we were a little surprised when Ella mentioned she had a loose tooth at the beginning of September.  She was wiggling away and getting it pretty loose, it was Friday night, they all went upstairs to get jammies on for movie night.  Next thing we know, she and Austin come running downstairs yelling that she had lost her tooth!  This crazy, sweet girl had used a rubber band to help pull it out…all on her own.
I don’t know why we were really surprised, it is how she rolls.  Time to ride a bike, she hops on and rides away.  Time to tie her shoes, a few lessons and she ties away.  Time to lose a tooth, she runs upstairs and pulls it out.  Dr. Purnell (our previous pediatrician) promised us that her strong personality and assertiveness would serve her well in life…he sure was right, and I so admire her for it.

Since we were not prepared, I had not yet gotten her a tooth fairy pillow like I had Austin.  He was so sweet and offered to let her use his.  To top it off, it had been a long week and Jeff and I failed and fell asleep before we remembered to have the tooth fairy visit.  Austin apparently woke up in the middle of the night, went to check, saw that we had forgot, went into his piggy bank and got out $5 that he put in her pillow, and took her tooth.  Jeff did wake up about 5am, went up to take care of it and saw this.  We of course put his money back, but then had to have a talk with him that morning about us really being the tooth fairy and how he didn’t need to worry about it.  That sweet boy has one of the biggest hearts I have ever known.

Sister fun

I had a moment when I got sick of having this big room be wasted as a formal dining space that only gets used once a year.  I moved a bunch of stuff around and as much as I wish I could make it work…I can’t.  It will someday go back to being a dining room, but for now, the girls sure are loving having it as their “classroom.”

Celebrating the 1st week of school

Our annual tradition for the past 4 years had been to celebrate the first week of school with dinner at El Mirasol with all of our family.  Life was a bit crazy for us this first week of school, so we opted instead to have the 5 of us stay at home with some Papa Johns.

Honestly, the kids couldn’t have been happier and it that is all that matters.

(That lovely receipt there next to the food, would be for entire new upstairs A/C system that went out on our 1 year anniversary of buying the house…oh the joys of home ownership.)

Here is to a great 4th grade, 1st grade, and last year of PreK!
