Our ride to school

I took the girls to school today (Notice the vacancy of Austin in the middle seat as he had already left on the school bus)

Also note Reese’s crazy hair-do at my attempt to try and at least get it out of her face. She tied to pull it out without complete success.

8-29-12, Ella and reese going to school

Ella started asking about my work and where I was going today, etc.  She then told me that when she grows up, she is going to work at home so she can pick her daughter up early every day.

This made me tear up.  I know I am a better mom because I go to work, but it breaks my heart to hear her say this.  You always worry, am I disappointing her because of the career choices I make?

I have no doubt she will be an amazing mom if that is what she chooses, no matter if she works inside or outside of the home.

Adios diapers!

Jeff decided to use the M&M trick of bribery for going in the potty with Reese on Sunday.  It had worked with Austin and Ella, so why not her.

Sunday actually went pretty well so we then decided to just send her in panties to school on Monday.  She only had 1 accident that day and yesterday, she had NONE!!!! Our beautiful girl is potty trained!  Not sure who is more excited, her or me?  Pretty sure it is me, since I have been changing diapers for 7 years and 4 months – I was DONE!

We celebrated with a treat after dinner.  This is what I get when I try to capture the three of my silly monkeys.

Hard to believe she will be 2 1/2 on Tuesday!  For the record, I tried to fix her hair this morning, put it in a cute little rubber band, pulled back…she promptly pulled it all out.

Austin’s 1st day of 2nd grade

The summer flew by and much to Austin’s chagrin, it was time to go back.   He was a little nervous when we went to meet the teacher on Friday afternoon and he specifically was curious to find out what color her hair was.  (I have no idea why, but this was important to him)

His fears were calmed when we were greeted with a hug from Mrs. Davis and this sweet note and goodie bag.

Unfortunately, late Sat night Austin got a visit from the nasty stomach bug and was laid out in bed all day Sunday.  By the evening he started to recover and was ready to go this morning for his 1st day of 2nd grade!

I let him pick all of his school supplies, backpack and lunch bag himself this year.  New shoes and new bag, ready to go.

Cutest 2nd grader I know!

Off to school (so early it is still dark)

When I got there to pick him up, he was having so much fun he asked if I could get the girls and then come back for him.  I call that a successful first day!

We are so proud of you buddy!  It is hard to believe you are already in 2nd grade—I remember being in 2nd grade (I had Mrs. Delgado).  Even harder to believe is that next year Ella will be coming with you to school.
We love you, have a great year!!

Port Aransas 2012

Our sweet friends, the Ellis family, invited us to join them at their company’s house for a few days this past week.  We all figured it was a great way to get some end of summer fun in before school starts on Monday.
It was surprisingly relaxing (with 6 kids) and we had so much fun!  The kids all played and entertained each other really well so the grown-ups got to feel like we were getting a little vacation too.

I warn you now, my photography skills were not up to par on this trip and the kids, Austin especially, were not interested in having their picture taken.
This is what I got when I tried to get Austin.

Michelle got a happier boy.

The highlight of our 1st morning was getting pedicures – with sparkles!

Then back to the beach.  A friend of Michelle’s lent her their yellow jeep for the week, which the kids loved and all wanted in every time.  Not the best look for everyone, but they are all sitting in the back of the jeep.

I was so happy, there were actually quite a few of these moments.

Reese refused naps, but Rhett was happy climb up next to her and snooze.

Will made us fabulous home-made meatballs and spaghetti.  Yum, yum, yum!!

We hit the Texas State Aquarium on the way back home.  I think we were all pretty worn out by this point, so we may not have fully enjoyed it, but I am still glad we went.

That is Reese’s hair in her eye, that she refuses to keep in a barrette or rubber band, but I refuse to cut it because I am trying to get the “bangs” grown out.  We will see who winsSmile

My final attempt at a shot of the three of them as we left.  I take what I can get because silly faces and all, they are gorgeous to me!

We came home tired, but happy and pretty relaxed.  We can’t wait to do it again next year!!
Now, on to the new school year!

Welfare Cafe

It was far, it was hot, and it was a bad place to take kids.  But, the company was still good and we learned our lesson-  Restrict our dining with as a family to Bigz or Willie’sSmile

Sometimes you just need a little one-on-one time

This was mid-July and Ella and I both needed a little time with just the two of us.

I picked her up early, got her favorite  - a bean and cheese taco, and then we went to get pedicures.  It made both of our days!

Gymnastics

Ella started gymnastics for the first time in July.  It took her a little while to warm up to the first class, but by the 2nd one, she just ran in and went for it.  She has become a hand stand and cartwheeling queen.
This was her first classSmile

We started right before the Olympics so she then loved watching the gymnasts on TV.  She currently has a favorite song called Home, that she calls the gymnastics song because they played it on TV during the gymnastics promos.
She just finished the first session and I signed her up for the fall in the big gym. She now says she doesn’t want to do it anymore. Uggh! We will try the first few classes and see if she changes her mind.

Friends and summer rain

Austin’s friend Drew shares Grandma Chris’ birthday, so he left her celebration a little early so he could enjoy Drew’s party as well.

Austin named him Simmy (I guess short for Homer Simpson) and he made it to the Lost Pines resort but then got lost, poor guy was bummed.

We then got a summer shower that night.
