Austin’s Holiday Party

Austin’s class had their holiday party on Friday.  It was exciting to see the room all packed up and ready to move into their new location.  We have been waiting two years for Vineyard Ranch elementary to open across the street from Concordia.  Jeff and I are both excited at the idea of a hopefully simpler drop-off and pick-up for the kids.

I love getting to talk with the other kids in his class and see how they interact with each other.  Austin was adamant that I get his friend Hayden’s phone number so they can have a play date.  I practically had to stalk his dad to get it, but I succeeded and hopefully they will get to play over the break.

Mrs. Davis is very sweet and has two boys of her own, so I feel like she has a really good understanding of Austin’s strengths and challenges.

They did a project similar to this frame a year or two back and it was fascinating to see how they have moved past haphazardly throwing the decorations and glitter on it, to now methodically placing them in just the right place.

They let you take the kids with you after the party if you want, so Austin was thrilled he got to leave early.  We got in a few hours of solo time, such a great way to start the break with my little man!

Mary

They must be talking a lot about Mary and Joseph at their school right now.  The other day, Reese grabbed the towel, wrapped it around her head and said, “Look Mommy, I am Mary”

Hanukah -2012

We missed the first night of Hanukah, but were able to make it over for dinner and lighting of the candles for the second night.  My dad doesn’t say the prayers in Hebrew anymore, which makes me a little sad, as I loved hearing him every year recite them in his taught language and wish my kids could grow up hearing the same.  It is still great that they get to see and experience just a little party of the Jewish heritage and I love to watch as they take turns lighting the candles.

Austin’s 1st School Performance–the Snowman

The second grade class had their first speaking role performance this month.  Austin was assigned the part of Snowman.  He had a few lines and nailed them!

Great job buddy, we are so proud of you!

Breakfast with Santa - 2012

Joel and Leslie’s church hosts a Breakfast with Santa every year, so at the beginning of December, we joined them bright and early to see Santa.

I also took the opportunity to try and grab a few pictures that I would be able to use for our Christmas card—Success!

Before going in to see the jolly man, they each wrote their letters to Santa.

Poor Ella was under the weather and pretty puny the rest of the weekend and into the week.

Ella’s wish list for Christmas – glitter, glue, paper, and a new baby doll

Reese’s wish list for Christmas – when you ask her, she just says “presents”  She has not yet fully comprehended the concept, which is quite sweet.  Jeff helped her a little with her list.

Austin's wish list for Christmas – 1st on the list- an iPad. A bit extravagant for a 7 year old and I don’t think Santa has these for kids this young. He really just wants it because his old iPod touch doesn’t work with the newest version of Sportacular.  Also on the list, Spurs tickets, a vampire Lego set, fast lane snake bite (Santa has no clue what this is) a SpongeBob Movie, Madden NFL 2K13 (Video game), new football, pretend gun, and because he is practical, an iPad case for his new iPadSmile

The best picture we could get with all of the kids and Santa.

Ella and Reese absolutely refused to get in his lap or even near Santa to tell him what they wanted (same story, different year, but it is okay)  Austin was more than happy though and loved getting to talk with Santa.  He is starting to question the whole Santa thing and I am worried this might be the last year he believes, so I am soaking it all up while we still can.
